The Sangju Bicycle Festival is held for three days at the beginning of October in Sangju-shi, Gyeongsangbuk-do.
A tragedy occured during the third festival in Oct. 2005 when eleven people were killed and 50 were injured when thousands of people rushed the gate to enter a concert. Many of those in front fell and were crushed beneath those who were coming up from behind.
