Sangmu or Sangmu-dong (상무동) is a neighborhood in Seo-gu, Gwangju. It is further divided into Sangmu-1 dong and Sangmu-2 dong and also includes the Sangmu Residential Area (상무지구), and unofficially incorporates nearby Ssangchon and Chipyeong-dongs as well. Sangmu is a commercial and residential neighborhood with loads of new apartments and buildings, with more on the way. The population is, as of April 2007, just under 53,000 [1] [2]. Notable attractions include the May 18 Memorial Park, Gwangju City Hall, and the numerous restaurants, movie theaters, and stores. The area also has innumerable hofs, noraebang, anma, and love motels, all of which dominate the scenery.

The prime shopping, eating, and recreational centers are mostly located 10 minutes or more away from the nearest subway stations, Sangmu Station and Uncheon Station (Honam University).
