Seoul Subway Line 6 of the Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation cuts across northern Seoul in a U-shape. Line 6 opened its first section 7 August, 2000: Bonghwasan - Sangwolgok (4 km). On 15 December, 2000 the remaining section (27 km) was also put into service although 4 stations in central Seoul had not been finished by then (Itaewon - Yaksu). These stations were finally operable on 9 March, 2001, which concluded Seoul's ambitious metro expansion programme carried out since 1990. The transfer corridor at Sindang (Line 2) did not open until 3 August, 2001. Total length: 35.1 km.

Line 6 is the only subway system in Seoul to have parts with one-directional lines. Commonly called the Eungam Loop, stations 611 - 615 only have trains going in the counterclockwise direction. Consequently, these stations also have one-sided platforms.

By 2011, Line 6 will be extended to the east about 2km, in order for it to be connected to the Gyeongchun or Jungang Line. The exact whereabouts of the transfer station is unknown, but it will probably be either Mangu or Galmae station.
