Shiganpyo

The Shiganpyo (시간표) is a timetable for long-distance transportation in Korea - including buses, trains and ferries. This book is over 300 pages and sells for 3,000 won. It is available at newspaper-and-book shops at some bus and train stations. Sometimes a tourist bureau can be prevailed upon to provide an old copy. This schedule book comes out in the Spring and the Autumn if not oftener.

Ferries: The departure times are given in the book. However all is written in Korean.

Trains: Train numbers as well as departure and arrival times are given. Main stations are named in English for their departure times. Minor stations are only given in Korean.

Buses: Individual times are not listed - rather, the first and last departure time is given, as well as the number of trips per day on each line. Fares are given, plus the number of kilometers involved in the journey. Bus schedules are written in Korean only.

If one can read Hangeul and have a reasonable idea of Korea's geography (or at least a map of the country), one will find this book to be quite useful.

Shinae (local) bus runs are not covered in the book - for those, local bus stations may have a printed schedule available, or at least have it posted on a board. The local schedules can be most confusing, because their destinations are sometimes not even on a good map of the shi or gun.
