Smaller Shillim is a administrative neighborhood and refers vicinity of Shillim Station of Seoul subway's green line, once called Shillim-5-dong. Greater Shillim, is a statutory neighborhood, and comprises Shillim and peripheral 10 dongs. Greater Shillim has combined area of 18.13 square kilometers and a total population of 289,823 [1].
Shillim is bordered to the north by Shindaebang in Dongjak, on the south by Anyang city in Gyeonggi, to the east by Bongcheon, Namhyeon and Gwacheon of Gyeonggi, and to the west by Seoul's Guro.
[edit] Pronunciation
Because of assimilation, the "ㄴ" in 신 is pronounced "ㄹ," making the word sound like "Shillim" rather than "Shinrim." Once each dong was counted by using the Sino-Korean system, meaning 신림9동 will sound like 신림구동 (Shillim-gu-dong). Since September, 2008, New neighborhood names introduced.
