Shillim (신림, 新林) is the unofficial name of a region in Seoul. It is comprised of a cluster of neighborhoods in Gwanak-gu, and is served by Shillim Station on the Seoul subway's green line. The 13 dong that comprise the greater Shillim-dong have a combined area of 18.13 square kilometers and a total population of 289,823 [1].
Shillim is bordered to the north by Shindaebang-dong in Dongjak-gu, on the south by Anyang city in Gyeonggi-do, to the east by Bongcheon-dong, Namhyeon-dong and Gyeonggi-do's Gwacheon city, and to the west by Seoul's Guro-gu.
[edit] Pronunciation
Because of assimilation, the "ㄴ" in 신 is pronounced "ㄹ," making the word sound like "Shillim" rather than "Shinrim." Each dong is counted by using the Sino-Korean system, meaning 신림9동 will sound like 신림구동 (Shillim-gu-dong).
