Shinan (신안군, 新安郡, new.peaceful.county) is a county in Jeollanam-do. The population as of 2004 was 47,646, including:
- 47,591 Koreans and
- 55 non-Koreans.

Shinan is composed almost entirely of islands, most of which are connected by bridges.

To the east across the sea is the city of Mokpo, to the west is the Yellow Sea, to the south is the Dado Sea, and to the north is the county of Yeonggwang.
The county is composed of 111 inhabited, and 719 uninhabited islands, making up 25% of the total islands in the country.
Some of the larger islands in the county include Anjwa-do (안좌도, 安佐島:45.2㎢), Aphae-do (압해도, 押海島:44.3㎢), Bigeum-do (비금도, 飛禽島:43.1㎢), Docho-do (도초도, 都草島:40.3㎢), Imja-do (임자도, 荏子島:43.2㎢), Amtae-do (암태도, 岩泰島:38.7㎢), Jeung-do (증도, 曾島:37.2㎢), Jangsan-do (장산도, 長山島:24.3㎢), Haui-do (하의도, 荷衣島:16.1㎢), and Heuksan-do (흑산도, 黑山島:19.7㎢).
The predominance of the sea gives the county a mild climate, and without too much precipitation either. The average temperature in January ranges from 2∼4℃, the average in August is 24℃, and the average temperature over the year is 14℃. The average yearly precipitation is 800∼1,000mm. There is also a large amount of fog in the county, which often makes it a challenge to pilot a ship in the area.

Ferries
Ferries make the 2h 20min trip between Mokpo and Hongdo twice daily. The cost is 29,750 won.
The 1h 30min ride between Mokpo and Heuksando happens twice daily as well, for 25,000 won.
Airports
The nearest international airport is in Gwangju, and the nearest domesic airport is in Mokpo. The international airport in Muan will become the most convenient airport for visitors to Shinan, although its opening has been behind schedule since 2002.
