There are 4 US military bases in the Daegu area. Camp Walker, Camp Henry, Camp George, and Camp Carroll. Walker, Henry, and George are all located near each other in southern Daegu, whereas Carroll is north of the city in Waegwan. Also, some GS are employed at the K-2 Military Air Base, in northeast Daegu.
Although George is quieter, as its mostly an installation for military housing and the American school, Walker and Henry have the most active areas on and outside of the base.
[edit] Camp Walker Service Road
Camp Walker, being the largest, has two gates, known as Gate 6(east side) and Gate 2(north side). Gate 6 is the main gate, which has lots of english-speaking businesses and services outside of the base that all foreigners are free to use. The best way to get here is to tell a taxi driver to take you to "Camp Walker Joong-moon". Otherwise, you can take a bus to Garden Hotel and walk south for a few minutes until you pass the barbed wire wall on your right. Follow this wall around to the road, which will be the start of the service road leading to Camp Walker.
[edit] Beauty salons
Also on this street, one can find english-speaking hair salons, manicures, pedicures, tanning, and waxing. All of these salons are used to dealing with the wives of US soldiers, so you need not worry about their experience in dealing with foreign hair, needs, and preferences.
[edit] Computer sales and services
There are 3 computer sales and service stores on this street and they all speak English well. They also carry tough-to-find English game titles for PC and consoles.
[edit] New and Used Cellphones
It's also a great area to buy new and used cellphones. There are about 4 cellphone stores there and offer prepaid phones and a few offer monthly plans. These stores also carry many kinds of cheap long distance calling cards. Another area that has a great selection of new and used cellphones is around Bukbu Terminal, which is worth a look before buying.
[edit] Optician
Near the entrance to the base, on the left side, is an English-speaking optician who sells glasses and contact lenses.
[edit] Pet store
This street has a pet store with various dogs for sale. They also carry various supplies and pet food, as well as can handle dog grooming.
[edit] Real estate agents
There are about 4 budongsans on this street and they all speak English. Regardless if you are looking for accommodation in this area or in another part of town, they can help you with the apartment hunt and dealing with landlords. They can also arrange laundry and cleaning services for you. Upon request, they can also arrange relocation and moving services, if you are moving locally, nationally, or internationally.
[edit] Travel Agent
Kangsan Travel has a Daegu branch on this street.
[edit] Western clothing
The street leading to the main gate has a few clothing stores that specialize in sports wear, like jerseys, caps, and other hiphop attire.
[edit] Nightlife
The Camp Walker service road has about 4-5 bars that are frequented by GIs and GS workers. The juicy bars, however, are mostly located across from Camp Henry.
[edit] Restaurants
[edit] Camp Henry
Camp Henry has less English-speaking business and services outside of it than Walker, but has a little more active nightlife. Across from the main gate (Gate 2) of Camp Henry there are some juicy bars, such as SUN and Paradise Club. Further north down the road towards downtown, there are regular bars like Texas Club and MVP.
