Tongyeong (통영시; 統營市; rule.manage.city) is a city in Gyeongsangnam-do. The population as of 2004 was 133,613, including:
- 132,959 Koreans and
- 654 non-Koreans.

Tongyeong is located at 128°07′∼128°44′ east, and 34°30′∼34°58′ north. It is located right along the southern coast with a total of 617 km of coastline, with 41 inhabited and 109 uninhabited islands.
To the north of the city is the county of Goseong, to the east is the Naeryang Strait facing the city of Geoje, to the west it faces Namhae county, and the sea is to the south. The city originally used naval roads more frequently than those from the land, but in the 1990s with the development of a number of highways to cities such as Masan ownership of cars increased dramatically.
The climate is maritime, and Tongyeong has the highest average temperature on the mainland. The average yearly temperature is around 14℃, the average temperature in January is 2.5℃, and in July around 25∼26℃. Average yearly precipitation is 1,358mm. Due to the climate the city is often used as a getaway to relax, and fruits such as oranges, pineapples and bananas are grown here.
