Does my chart meet the required standard? mithridates aka 데이빛 10:54, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
Yeah, that's exactly what I had in mind. I should really learn to do that.Hater Depot 11:02, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
- Good. You can start out by just coping already-formatted stuff and learn slowly from there. That Template:Prettyinfotable is just a bunch of settings for colour and whatnot and makes it easier than just typing it all out every time. mithridates aka 데이빛 12:11, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
I just bequeathed you some stuff. mithridates aka 데이빛 14:13, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

You know, like stuff. mithridates aka 데이빛 20:11, 16 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Hey...
Hey, I'm translating something big due tomorrow so a bit busy, but anything that is written to the right of the left margin gets put into one of those blue boxes
like this.
If it still looks bad I'll fix it after I get this big document sent in.
mithridates aka 데이빛 08:35, 2 January 2006 (UTC)
Thanks. By the way, what do you make of this. http://englishname.seoul.go.kr/ I'm not really sure where to put it. Hater Depot 02:49, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
- Orthography of English words in Korean perhaps? There's a document on that here that seems to be related. That's a pretty good find, that page. mithridates aka 데이빛 03:41, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] No recruiter or school articles, pls.
The future growth of the overall project is going to be eventually driven by paid job ads from recruiters and schools. We don't want to cannabalize ourselves by diluting site revenue from putting up articles linking to schools and recruiters. I still need to put this caveat in a TOS.--Galbijim 10:13, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
I added a caveat on this.--Galbijim 10:57, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] The movie Hatur Dipo
Okay, here's a film about you and a small stuffed bear called 남궁덕전. 걔는 너무 씩씩해서 he has NO NEED FOR MONEY. Just like Hercules in New York if you recall. PS You can use small images of movie posters without worrying about copyright because they are promotional materials and okay under fair use. mithridates aka 데이빛 07:14, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
Oh, and I forgot to mention that you and Deokjeon hang out at Freshness Burger in the movie. He's good for it, don't worry. mithridates aka 데이빛 07:26, 25 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Oh yeah
Oh yeah, you got demoted I guess. Now you're back. Actually it only took me about ten minutes to get my edits back up but I hadn't done much last month because I suspected that the monkeys were going to screw things up somehow and I was right. Now that it's back on the server that it's supposed to be on though I'm pretty stoked to get this up to 10,000 pages and beyond. It's been in limbo for way too long. mithridates aka 데이빛 10:48, 4 July 2006 (CEST)
Looks like that place is called Hokkaido Izakaya (북해도 = Hokkaido). Izakaya's a general name for a bar in Japan and there are quite a few of them with that name here too. I would have moved the page but I've never been there so I'm just guessing that's what its real name is. Am I correct? mithridates aka 데이빛 03:48, 23 July 2006 (CEST)
[edit] Just in case you missed it
There was a bit on sending text messages here already, so I joined the two together and the one you just created can be the full article then. mithridates aka 데이빛 12:59, 25 July 2006 (CEST)
[edit] Why not keep them all?
Since this isn't a paper encyclopedia, why not? We could remove the phone number since it doesn't apply anymore. Imagining a little bit, think about what the wiki would be like if it was started in 1971 and we were able to do searches on things that people had written about shops back then. That would be great. "xx restaurant is located next to the town's payphone. If you wish to make a call around noon you'll be out of luck as there are long lineups to use it" or something like that would be dope. And at the very least it provides more content to be indexed by search engines. mithridates aka 데이빛 05:28, 13 September 2006 (CEST)
I agree with Mith on the nostalgia bit. There was a recent discussion in the blog comments on Marmot and two guys where talking about a great burger place that used be in Seoul about 10 years ago. It'd be nice to have record of stuff like that in 10 years time from now. Also, remember that Google loves content.--Galbijim 05:49, 13 September 2006 (CEST)
[edit] Categories
You seem to be the category fellow around here, and you also seem to care about it a lot, so I'll ask you. In the Bundang index, for example, how many entries do you thing is too much? How many should we shoot for? What should be included and what should not? Your thoughts would be appreciated. Bundanggumin 12:09, 3 October 2006 (CEST)

[edit] Blog List
Please don't reference or add to the old blog list anymore. The new one is at the Blog Portal and we should be encouraging people to add their blogs to the blog roll. I'm going to be redirecting the old one to this new one.--Galbijim 11:08, 14 October 2006 (CEST)
[edit] Making a Jeollanam-do Portal
Hello. I'm slowly trying to build enough information for a Jeollanam-do portal, since they're---like every place else---are importing tons of new foreign teachers. In my free time I'm going to tinker with getting the basics set up. Is it possible to link to a category without that category showing up on the bottom of the page? For example, I'm going to have a heading for each county, with a list of all the categories for that county underneath. But whenever I put a link to "Category:Buddhist temples in Gangjin," for example, it either shows up as a red link or it goes to the bottom of the page. Thanks. Smee 16:54, 15 October 2006 (CEST)
Actually, it just occurred to me, would it be wiser to just make List pages rather than categories? I'm a new-b at this. Smee 16:57, 15 October 2006 (CEST)
Cool, thanks. Smee 10:28, 16 October 2006 (CEST)
[edit] Vegetarian Portal page
What are your thoughts on making Being a vegetarian as the portal page on vegetarianism in Korea and linking all relevant articles from there?--Galbijim 04:45, 26 October 2006 (CEST)
[edit] Sorry but it looks like you are now an external image
Good? We can start putting this on images from places like Wikipedia slowly and surely.
mithridates aka 데이빛 18:04, 5 November 2006 (CET)
It seems to me like you are the guy to ask about this since you seem to be working on Korean vocabulary all the time. I'd like to start writing about Korean 속담's, and was wondering if you had any tips about how it should (or you'd like it to) be organized. Once it gets started I'd like to write about at least one a day. You can only write about Bundang for so long, after all. Anyway, any thoughts would be cool. Bundanggumin 16:49, 6 November 2006 (CET)
- About the categories that you deleted... I am a little confused about how it should be done. For example, I made a category for ㄲ instead of putting it in ㄱ because I saw that there were seperate categories for ㅅ and for ㅆ. So logically, I assumed that the same should be done across the board. According to that system, shouldn't 꿩 be in the ㄲ category and not the ㄱ category? What words would qualify going into a ㄲ category, if it existed? Furthermore, what about 알? Why would that go in the 아 category and not the the 알 category? There are dozens of words that could go into an 알 category if it existed. The words just may not pop up until some time in the future, after they have been written. After all, in the ㄱ category, there are also Ko 가, Ko 갈, Ko 감, Ko 갖, Ko 같 etc. Why do they get their own categories? I just want to know what to do, so I'm not writing code that I know will get changed almost right away, when I could do it the right way the first time.
[edit] 괜찮다 is not 고
If you look at Korean words from 가, 괜찮다 is 괘 and not 고. Same for quite a few others. mithridates aka 데이빛 06:06, 8 November 2006 (CET)
- Yeah, just go along with those - the lists are directly from the Korean Wiktionary. You were right to turn 건 and 감 into 거 and 가 though for example. mithridates aka 데이빛 06:42, 8 November 2006 (CET)
[edit] Different variations
I have worried what kind of reaction it would receive. I guess from my point of view since these additional files take up a couple of kb's at best and they do add some clarification where useful, I didn't think it would be a big deal. Especially since most (at least 95% of) words wouldn't need this kind of treatment. But there are alternatives to this approach if you think it's really annoying and disruptive. I just thought in the future it could be a useful way to reference certain words which happen to have a variety of meanings. In addition, it doesn't have to be done in every circumstance, just where it has a use. So you are right, we don't need to do it in every case. That's why you don't see me making additional files for every definition, just the ones that serve my purposes. Bundanggumin 02:31, 11 November 2006 (CET)
[edit] ESL Images
Thanks. I'll be spending more time with that part of the wiki in Dec/Jan, so I'll let you know about pics.--Galbijim 15:57, 27 November 2006 (CET)
[edit] Are you really soluxury?
I just realized I've never gotten an email from that address. Does it work? mithridates aka 데이빛 11:33, 30 November 2006 (CET)
[edit] Categories
Hi, just noticed that the vowels are still a bit off in the categories. Here you can see that 요 would be ko 요 and not ko 오 for example. The rule of thumb is to look at the entire top part of the letter (unless there's no bottom part, then it's the whole letter) including the vowel as is, and ignore double consonants. 꾀 would be ko 괴, 양would be ko 야, etc. mithridates aka 데이빛 16:33, 12 December 2006 (CET)
Hallo du, it's Ko 여, not Ko 어. Do you have a dictionary on hand that uses a different system? mithridates aka 데이빛 09:53, 18 December 2006 (CET)
I forgot about the question about the Korean government, sorry. Works produced by the Korean government and supreme court and I think a few others don't have any copyright. The people that know about that the best are over at the Korean Wikisource; I go over there every once in a while to look for new material. mithridates aka 데이빛 16:49, 26 December 2006 (CET)
[edit] Wiki Help
Well, what we really need is to beef up all city pages and try to move them in the direction of city guides. I just finished adding restaurant/bar content for all of them, plus did TOC re-org and added more images, wherever possible. What we need now is to keep expanding them. I think now that restaurants and bars are done, the next subject of city content should be shopping and movie theaters. If you can go to the Naver or Yahoo Korea page for each city and search for their departments stores, Emarts, Homeplus, etc...as well as movie theaters, if any, then follow what I did with restaurants, ie., have a small blurb on the main city page, with a link to the sub-page of 'Shopping in Busan', for example. All of these sub-pages should have the similar 'please leave a message if you need directions' templates, like I used with restaurants and bars. You don't need to go and create articles for every shopping venue or cinema that you find. For now, just have the page set up like this, where we empower the user to use the talk page if they need more info or directions to an article we haven't completed yet, this is good enough until we can get around to it later. Better to have something like this on all city pages right away, rather than having a load of detailed content on a few and not much on others. If you can do that and go city by city (no need for gu, dong, or myeon content, at this point) I can follow along and get started on adding medical services and health clubs, etc...When all is done, we'll have some fabulously detailed city guides.--Galbijim 05:02, 9 April 2007 (CEST)
Why restore this page? There is no such pattern. Refer to the discussion on -기 후에's talk page.
