A whistle-stop station (가니역) is one that has no regular passenger train service - those wishing to embark or disembark must let the train know in advance of passing the station. Many are being closed from lack of use. Some are being preserved as historical artifacts.
Here are some whistle-stop stations in Korea:
- Gaeun Station, on the old spur line from Jeomchon, in Mungyeong-shi, Gyeongsangbuk-do.
- Gimyujeong Station, open 1939, in Chuncheon-shi, Gangwon-do, named for author Kim You-jeong.
- Hwarangdae Station, built 1939, on Seoul-Chuncheon line.
- Ilsan Station, once in the country, now very urban.
- Songjong Station, in Haeundae-gu, Busan.
- Togyeong-ni, in Samcheok-shi, Gangwon-do.
