Wolmi-do
Wolmi-do
Hangul: 월미도
Hanja: 月尾島
Revised Romanization: Wolmi-do
McCune-Reischauer:

Wolmi-do (월미도, , moon.tail.island) is an island located in Jung-gu in the city of Incheon, connected to the mainland. The name of the island comes from its appearance, as the tail end of a half moon.

The island has seen a great deal of conflict between Japan and Russia over navy bases and mining locations. The island was decreed a tourist spot by the government in 1918, and it has been connected to the mainland since 1923.

[edit] How to get there

  • From Seoul - the island can be reached by bus with Wolmi-do as its final destination, and is a short distance from Incheon Station (about ten minutes by bus). The Gyeongin Expressway also goes directly to the island.
  • From Incheon - buses number 2, 15, 23 and 45 go to the island. They stop at Incheon Station first.
