In 1965 Yecheon-gun's population stood at 165,886 people so in 40 years the area has lost over two-thirds of its inhabitants. Between 2000 and 2004 the population decrease was 1517, or 2.83%. 56% of the land is forest and 30% is farmland [2].
Yechon-gun has Mungyeong to its west, Andong to its east, Yeongju and Danyang-gun to its north, and Uiseong-gun to its south.

[edit] Getting there
- Air. Yechon has an airport and briefly had commercial flight services. This is no longer the case. There is still a large Korean Air Force base in the area. Nearest air service now is to Seoul or Daegu.
- Bus. The Yecheon bus station is located at the south end of town. Buses come and go here from Seoul, Daegu, Andong, Jeomchon, Kimcheon and other destinations.
- Rail. Yechon is on the Yeongju to Kimcheon line and has train service several times a day in either direction.
- Highway. Yecheon is two kms north of Highway 34 between Andong and Mungyeong. It's just across the river from Highway 28, which runs directly northeast to Yeongju and by a very devious route, southeast to Yeongcheon.
[edit] Local transport
The Yechon local buses stop just outside the Yechon intercity bus terminal.

[edit] Education
There are 43 schools in the county, including:
- 19 elementary schools,
- 10 junior high schools,
- 6 high schools, and
- 1 university.
It is reasonable to believe that the remaining 7 are kindergartens.
[edit] Budget
Yecheon-gun's budget (perhaps in 2002-2004 or so) was 155.6 billion won (General appropriation: 139.6 billion won, special appropriation: 19.5 billion won). 13.3% of this was self-support.
