Yeongjong-do
Yeongjong-do
Korean name
Hangul: 영종도
Hanja: 永宗島
Revised Romanization: Yeongjong-do
McCune-Reischauer:

Yeongjong-do (영종도, , long.belief.island) is an island located in the city of Incheon, and the island where Incheon International Airport is located. The island was originally three islands, the other two being called Sammuk-do (삼묵도) and Yongyu-do (용유도), but in order to create the area for the airport the land was raised and the three island were turned into one. The old name of the island is Jayeon-do (자연도, 島, purple.swallow.island). For a long time the only way of getting to the island was through the highway that led to the airport but beginning in March 2007 the subway will go from Gimpo International Airport to the one in Incheon, giving two methods of getting to the island.
