Yeongwol (영월군, , peaceful.crossing.county) is a county in Gangwon-do. The population as of 2004 was 42,618, including:

  • 42,406 Koreans and
  • 212 non-Koreans.

To the north are the counties of Jeongseon and Pyeongchang, to the west is the county of Hoengseong and the city of Wonju, to the south is the city of Jecheon and county of Danyang in Chungcheongnam-do as well as the city of Yeongju and the county of Bonghwa in Gyeongsangbuk-do, and to the east is the city of Taebaek.

The county is next to the Taebaek Mountains and there are a number of fairly large mountains nearby, such as Baekdeoksan (백덕산, 白德山:獅子山, 1,350m), Baegunsan (백운산, 白雲山:1,426m), Duwibong (두위봉, 斗圍峰:1,466m), Manggyeongdaesan (망경대산, 望景臺山:1,088m), Taehwasan (태화산, 太華山:1,027m), and Okseoksan (옥석산, 玉石山:1,232m).

As the county is located away from the sea it has a continental climate. The average yearly temperature is 10.8℃, the average temperature in January is -5.7℃, and the average in August is 25.5℃. The average yearly precipitation is around 1,100mm, three quarters of that falling during the rainy season from June to August.
