Yeonpung-myeon
(Redirected from Yeonpung)

Yeonpung-myeon is in the eastern part of Goesan-gun, bordered on the north by Chungju-shi's Sangmi-myeon and on the east and south by Mungyeong-shi in Gyeongsangbuk-do. Yeonpung is noted for its dried persimmons.

Yeonpung points of interest:

  • The western entrance to Mungyeong SaeJae (the Third Gate is located right on the border with Yeonpung.)
  • Suok pokpo - waterfall down the valley from the Third Gate.
  • Wonpung-ni twin Buddhas - Treasure No. 97. Relief carved on a rock face visible from Highway 3.
  • Yeonpung Seongji, a Catholic martyr site. Catholics escaping persecution in Seoul settled here in 1801. Nonetheless they were rounded up and executed by the police.

Yeonpung town is a very small place, but its tiny bus station receives an inordinately large amount of bus traffic. This is due to its key location as a crossroads for travel to Cheongju, Chungju, Seoul and points south and east in Gyeongsangbuk-do.
