Yonggung-myeon

Yonggung-myeon is bordered by Sanyang-myeon of Mungyeong-shi on the west; Mungyeong's Sanbuk-myeon on the north; Gaepo-myeon on the east; Jibo-myeon on the southeast; Pungyang-myeon on a short southern border, and Mungyeong's Yeongsun-myeon on the southwest.

Yonggung-myeon's town of the same name is along the western boundary of Yecheon-gun, and lies just south of Highway 34. A bus terminal on the east end of the town has service to Andong, Seoul, Jeomchon, and other destinations in Korea. The train station is located on the west end of town, and has several passenger trains daily along the Yeongju to Kimcheon line.

Yonggung is a long thin town, going east and west. Businesses along the main drag include a couple Kosa Marts, a couple of popular sundaeguk places, a Nong Hyup supermarket and bank, three chicken places, a couple ddeok jips, a PC bang, and a number of restaurants. There's a road out of town headingsouth to some of the area's attractions just a block west of the bus terminal. Another road goes south, forming the main intersection in the middle of town. There's three blocks of town along this road. It features a small supermarket, a bakery, and the public market which is in lanes just to the west (and south of the main street.)

Continuing along the main road, there's a couple churches (off on side roads to the north), and, on P'ogeumsan (포금산), the hill on the north side of town, a pavillion with some markers. The post office, the train station, and the police station are on the west side of town, and right at the west end is a SK gas station and a jangseung maker.

Southeast of the town area, one crosses the Daeseongcheon a couple kms. before it runs into the Nakdong River. Heading up the hill one will reach the parking lot of the temple Jangansa. Beyond the temple the trail goes up to the ridgeline where the view includes Hoeryongpo, a village within a riverbend. (Hoeryongpo can now be accessed by crossing the river twice on bridges, a little farther down the road that led from Yonggung.)

Jangansa: Address: San1 Hyangseok-ri, Yonggung-myeon, Yecheon-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do. Tel: (054) 655-1400.
