The Hampyeong Butterfly Festival (함평군 나비축제) takes place each May at Hampyeong Cheonsubyeon Park in Hampyeong county, Jeollanam-do. The festival has been held each year since 1999, and in 2007 it will run from May 3 to May 8.
There are five themes within each festival:
- General Ecology Experience and Butterfly Ecology Hall - education about butterflies.
- Rare Butterfly Specimen Exhibition
- Herbal Medicine Hall
- Outdoor Ecology Experience Hall - a variety of natural dying techniques
- Eco-friendly Farming Zone
Additionally visitors can visit the Memory-Making Game Plaza and play traditional Korean games. There are also various parades, fashion shows, marathons, and music events during the festival.
Getting There
Visitors from Seoul can reach Hampyeong via the Express Bus Terminal. Once at Hampyeong Bus Terminal, exit, turn right, and walk for 300 meters until reaching Hampyeong Cheonsubyeon Park.
