There's a lot to be written on so many areas, but there are a lot of critical gaps that need to be focused on to benefit expats and Korea newbs.
- Wikipedia has a load of useful info on Korea that we can import over here. We can use some or all of it to either make new articles or beef up our existing ones. If you plan to borrow Wikipedia content for Galbijim, please follow these 2 rules:
- To comply with copyright usage, we need to have reference and link going back to the original Wikipedia article. When you create a Galbijim article that uses some or all of a Wikipedia article, please use the following template:
| This page contains content from a Wikipedia article located here.
|
- The disclaimer will need to be placed at the bottom of the new article. You can either
- edit this message and copy/paste the code, then change the url; or
- use the Wikipedia citation template by inserting the text
{{Wikipedia|Green_eggs_and_ham}}
where Green Eggs and Ham is the name of the article on Wikipedia.
- Make sure that you 'wikify' the article according to Galbijim, and not according to Wikipedia. ie., A wikipedia article is going to have text links to everything such as a generic article on what the word 'province' means, or everything that happened in the world in 1896. As Galbijim is only Korean-centric, you'll need to remove the text links for everything in the wikipedia article that is not relevant to Korea. Likewise, you may need to add some text links for words that will have some article relevance for Korea.
- KNTO has an old site that is still active that has a ton of travel-related content. We can't use their words, verbatim, due to copyright, but you guys can copy/paste it onto a new article, as long as it is modified and added to, to avoid copyright issues, before saving to Galbijim.
- We need ESL content, big-time. Most newbs that will be reading the wiki are just learning about ESL for the first time. Lessons, activities, methodology, links to other useful lesson sites, anything that you can think of that will benefit a newb.
- One of the goals of Galbijim is to be a great info source for foreigners to learn more about Korea and explore the culture outside of western familiarites like Itaewon, Hongdae, and western districts in other cities. However, we still need to provide a ton of useful content on Itaewon, Hongdae, Sinchon, etc...Most newbs that are researching about coming here, look for info on these havens of familiarity and we need to accommodate that. We need a main article on Itaewon and Hongdae, which can have a linked directory to the western bars, restaurants, and businesses in those areas. As well as the smaller pockets of western nightlife in the cities throughout Korea.
